About the Author

I am a South African living in Madrid since 2005. I love this city, its people, its streets and its buzz. Therefore more than a year ago, I created this blog to to inform friends and visitors of the city about what it has to offer. The result is Cheap In Madrid, a blog whose 95% content is for free events and activities from free music concerts, free art expositions, free workshops, free theatre, free museum visits, places to learn Spanish or other languages free of charge, cheap places to enjoy tapas and other typical Spanish dishes etc etc.

This year,I am happy to announce the addition of  two great writers who joined the team. I am also on my way to welcoming the third writer and contributer to this ever growing concept and team. We will then be 2 South Africans and two Americans.

Thanks for stopping by to get to know the writers of this blog.See you around at the many events and activities published in this blog.Dont forget to bring your camera and add photos to the Cheap In Madrid Flickr account. Please leave comments on posts that you like, in this way you will help us grow more and more.

I just discovered this website through a post on a Facebook profile I’m friends with (I believe it was Madrid Players) and I got really excited because I’m always on the prowl for FREE things to do, especially in the beautiful cosmopolitan city of Madrid where I now live & work! So good job Sara & keep it up! :)

    • Hi Carmen,thanks for subscribing.
The amount and frequency of activities in Madrid is amazing and Im happy I can help to share the information for these events on time.Take care and please spread the word!

  5. Hi, I stayed in Sud-Africa for a long 30 days up to Namibia, you have an amazing country!, and should do also write a blog about it ; ).

This blog was recommended to me in internations, as I usually help foreigners (I have 2 rental company http://www.dflathousing.com and http://www.dflatmadrid.com).

Comming back to the blog, it is really good idea. I created something for tourists that wants to know what to do in Madrid for some days, basically created walks and added some places to see. I was considering that if you are active, I can create a link in my webpages or an space, I do not know!. Also you can create static offers as I have in mine.

    See: https://sites.google.com/site/madridandfun/
This is a non profit website, only to say the word Madrid is a nice place to coma and repeate. You are free to take ideas from it, or also I can complement yours with maps and a better focus of mine. I am more interested is static information, as I have much work also ; ( .

If you want, I can buy a site and you can add links to walks I can create, please tell me your ideas !

    I ask your oppinion

  6. Hi Satur,

  10. Hi

I just recently found out about your blog from Veronica (a Cuban-American that you met in theater group). Not only is your blog a good idea, it has a very nice layout…looks good, easy to use. Congrats.

I am currently working with the Giggling Guiri, a small Spanish company started in BCN by an Irish ex-pat 10 years ago. Once a month we bring the TOP professional comedians from the UK, Ireland, Aus, and the US to Barcelona and Madrid for a unique entertainment experience–Stand-up in English!

We have had comics that have gone on to absolute stardom including David O’Doherty, Michael McIntyre and Kevin Bridges. McIntyre has a regular comedy showcase on UK TV, Bridges has recently broke records for selling out DVDs and Fringe shows

This month, in conjunction with our Barcelona International Comedy Fest, we have two shows in Madrid: Seann Walsh (already appearing on BBC programs like Mock the Week and McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow), and Andrew Maxwell (Household name in Ireland, and regular on dozens of TV programs).

The tickets for Madrid shows sell for 20Eu at the door, 17 in advance, and 15 for groups…

I don-t know if those prices qualify for your definition of ‘cheap’. But I certainly think that 15Eu to see someone that normally sells tickets for more than 25Pounds is cheap.

…cheap enough to be on your blog? That is oclearly your decision.

Please send me an email to let me know what you think. I look forward to hearing from you

    Dan

  11. Hi there,
I just discovered this blog and wanted to recommend it to some friends on Facebook. I have notice there is no button to share on Facebook though. Maybe it would be a good idea to add a plug-in for it.

Thanks for sharing all this info with us.

    Regards,

  12. Hi there CheapinMadrid!

  13. Hello CheapinMadrid,

I follow your blog but one thing I have notice is that the email list newsletter usually received in my inbox on Monday morning lists activities happening in Madrid that weekend prior. Is there a way to possibly receive the newsletter on Friday morning instead so we are aware of the activites for the weekend? Thanks so much!

  14. Hola! i just moved to Madrid and had the exact same idea for a blog. I entered this title on wordpress and lo and behold, it already exists! I noticed it’s been a while since a blog entry was written. Do you need more help? If so, I would like to write for you. I can offer some samples and tell you more about myself and why I’m here.

    Thanks!
